3Mail on a new handset
After taking delivery of the N95 8GB its only natural to start modding the phone to ones personal tastes and configuration.
In many peoples cases with such a handset, email is a common thing to be now carrying around in your pocket.
If your with the 3 network, you may well be aware of the standard 3 email address you always get, or that you have setup in the past.
On my old phone i used this email address to send information into the phone aswell as using it to access and download voicemail messages, in which case i would like the same functions on the new phone.
Now starting a 3Mail account is straight forward and the settings come along automatically which you just load into the phone.
The problem is, transfering the information to a new handset…
In a bizzare way, if you go along to the 3 website and type in ‘3Mail’ to the support search… it seems to deny all knowledge of the entire thing!
Likewise, accessing Planet 3 from the handset allows you to go to you ‘online’ inbox and view at leisure, yet there seems to be no action to ‘resend’ your email settings for easy install, so last resort would be to call 3 and ask for the information, but to be honest i couldnt be bothered with the retarded Press 1 or 2 or 3 to do this-that-the-other on the phone line.
So i put my own initiative into getting the phone to recognise my 3Mail inbox and this is where one of the tricky parts comes along as the settings are configured in a slightly different way to how you normally do an IMAP inbox access.
Heres a few steps that may help you out on setting up your 3Mail Inbox…
Please be aware my menu system may look slightly different on the screen shots where ive been moving things around
Press the Menu key on the handset…

Select Messaging

Select Options and the scroll to Settings

Select E-Mail

Select Mailboxes

Select the 3Mail

Select Connection Settings

Select Incoming e-mail

In the User name box type in your user name, which is the first part of your email address
So if your email address is johndoe@3mail.com then type in ‘johndoe‘ into the user name box
The password is the same as your voicemail pin, and if you have forgot that, then you may need to call 3 themselves to get it reset.
The rest of the settings should be ok.

Now go back and select Outgoing e-mail

All you need to do here is type in your FULL email address into the My e-mail address box.
Leave the User name and the Password BLANK
Again everything else should be set.
Once you have done these steps, retun back to the messaging screen and you should be able to connect to the 3Mail inbox again.
Ideally send a test message from another email account to check.
This information was very helpful. I looked everywhere else for these details without much luck but these worked great.
If you are using an older nokia smartphone (6630) like I am the the incoming and outgoing settings aren’t in seperate menues. For these phones put the user name and password into the one field available as you described and make sure that security ports are turned off.
Thanks !!
