New and upcoming

September 29, 2007

Well i was pleased today when i recieved an email back from Nvidia that i could now play Hellgate London on BETA test :-D

This title looked interesting from the press and i was interested in seeing what it was like. www.hellgatelondon.com

Now one thing is, ive never really been into the MMORPG games, as ive never really found one that i like the ‘theme’ of. Although HG:L promises an apocolyptic humans vs. demons battle bassed 25 years in the future after the fall of a the legend that when the ravens leave the Tower Of London, then all hell will break loose… excuse the pun!

As i said i recieved my key to play the BETA version but essentially commiting to buy, always a plus point if you ask me. So after downloading and installing im then to find that the login servers are currently down and nobody can get on at the moment :-D never mind!

On another note ive decided to purchase S.T.A.L.K.E.R and have go at that. As again its something that appeals, being another disaster zone type game. Should keep me occupied for when Crysis is out :-D

Funnily enough HG:L also released about a week prior to Crysis!

Who is Rob Langton?

September 29, 2007

Well i had to laugh at that when i checked my stats for the blog a few moments ago, to find one of the search terms for getting here was indeed that :-D and indeed tapping that into Google does bring me up in the top 6 of the first page! Aswell as several other things that have gained my name through the internet! Mostly things car related, and someone seems to have upset Air France with the same name! I swear thats not me!

/Checks window for any FBI vans!

Spooky! :-D

Bioshock Final Chapter

September 26, 2007

BIOSHOCK POTENTIAL SPOILERS IN THIS POST!

Well, ive made it to the end of Bioshock! I became a Big Daddy and went on to defeat Fontain to the death, and quite happily i was rewaded with the good ending, from what i discovered there to be two alternatives. Basically i had the ending where Jack gets back to the surface and escapes Rapture after being handed the key to the city (which you turn down) and bring all the little sisters back and help them on to ‘normal’ lives. Although the ending was a little short lived and moderately predictable, it surpassed!

Ill say it again, this has been THE best game of 2007 and im sure hoping a sequal will be released to this, in which case ive seen a few web snippets saying it could be a reality around 2009 :-D and hopefully as ive said before, someone will do a mod to allow you to play around with that pretty damn cool Unreal engine!

As for gaming im pretty bored now :-D i would play Halo 3 if i had been anywhere near the other 2 as that seems to be getting all the press at the moment.

Failing that, Crysis is out in November, so im sure that will provide ample entertainment over the Winter period.

163.69 Update

September 23, 2007

Well so far so good, the Nvidia 163.69 drivers seem to have aided stability to some degree and also interestingly a few new options in nTune seem to have opened up.

Most noticeably a function to give priority to games to the network… interesting and clever! Although i cant say ive suffered any problems from the chipset or the connection itself when gaming. It has always mostly been down to me forgetting to allow it through the firewall! :-D

Its not improved Bioshock in much way though, it still randomly crashes out when doing certain things (vendors and picking up tonics/plasmids) although im convinced now this is a program issue with the game itself rather than the graphics drivers.

Can see myself finishing it before any improvement is made though!!

One thing i would like to see is a mod for Bioshock to let you play around with the Physics Engine like the Garrys Mod (GMod) lets you do with Counter Strike and Half Life 2.

New NVIDIA drivers again!

September 18, 2007

Fresh NVIDIA drivers out for the kill! Latest can be found on the NVIDIA site as you would expect, and those being 163.69…

Ill have these installed in the next 24 hours or so and as the release information states, it should add further improvement to Bioshock and also geared for Crysis out soon! :-D

On the mention of Bioshock and this is a warning as spoilers may follow!

Ive just got tot the point where ive ‘met’ Andrew Ryan and erm… stoved his head in with a golf club! I must say quite a superb piece of cinematic sequance for a game, still thoroughly loving this through out.

One thing i would like to know is what happens if you have been ‘killing’ the little sisters? As i have been doing it the ‘hard way’ and exorcising them, much to my advantage in some cases as they tended to help me after i nuked Ryan and then had the daylights beat out of me by two dozen security bots. In which case the little sisters help guide you out and to safety?

Im wondering if this has an alterntive point? As you get to the safe haven and meet all the sisters you have saved? Hmmmmm…..

Definately one to play twice!

RIP Colin McRae (MBE)

September 16, 2007

Id just like to post quickly and offer my condolence to the family and friends of Colin McRae.

As many will know McRae was one of Britain and Scotlands finest offerings to the world of rallying who unfortunately was killed in a helicopter accident along with his 5 year old son, Johnny, and two family friends on 15th of September 2007.

Many will know McRae from his years with Subaru and although he had since made a (semi) retirment from pro rallying, yet returned to stun the world once again with his skills, this is a sore loss to the rallying community and as a childhood, and of all time hero of mine.

RIP Colin, im sure hell be tearing up the stages of heaven right now! :-(

Patch Update

September 9, 2007

Well so far the two Windows hotfixes i have installed do appear to have provided some increased stability, especially when playing Bioshock. If you read my last post this is all detailed exactly.

However it did eventually crash, and quite annoyingly when i had just snapped a cracking picture of a splicer and then rewarded with a new Plasmid for free! But, BOOM! Total lock up :-(

Heres a tip aswell…. when your after a Big Daddy and have the Grenade Launcher, absolutley load up on Mines, Heatseakers and Frag Grenades and blow the shite out of them! :-D Works a treat!

Patch me up.

September 7, 2007

Well i must admit i am thoroughly enjoying playing Bioshock, some may argue my current position within the game for the amount of time ive been playing it, but id rather take it in fully rather than rush through it!

If you are interested by any means im pretty much on the Neptunes level after using the camera to snap shot spider splicers. One thing that would be nice to know is… can you retrieve your camera pictures from anywhere as itll make for some pretty cool screen shots, being as XFire seems to fail point blank with its screenshot system (which i believe is something to do with it being a 64bit system?

One thing that is still annoying me about Bioshock is the frequant crashes i am still sustaining :-( the game IS playable, but keeps suffering the odd artifact and graphic crashes, although nothing like the greif myself and others have had from the 162.22 drivers! And i can nearly always count on it when i try to pick up a Tonic within the game that i will suffer an complete system lockup! I was also getting this when using the clown vendor things but that seems to have subsided.

The only thing is i have resorted to saving the game very often, which has helped me out quite a few times so far! :-D

On another note i decided to have a driver hunt to see if anything new has been released. Starting off with NVIDIA themselves, no new graphics drivers but i have found a newer version of the nForce drivers (15.08) so theyll be going on soon.

Also on the NVIDIA site i found a link regarding Vista hotfixes relating to some Direct X 10 and SLI problems encountered in Vista.

There are 4 in total, and checking on my installed updates, 2 had already made it down through Windows Update, but i have been missing the other 2. A quick trip to the MS website and a a download later i have them ready to go. If im lucky i may have some results, as one of the is to help fix a problem with SLI dual graphics cards, where the 2nd card is not utlilsed correctly, which is one thing ive been convinced of with my system for a while now!

Heres the link to the NVIDIA site itself -> http://www.nvidia.com/object/windows_vista_hotfixes.html

And heres the extract itself… (the two hotfixes im concerned with are the first two… 940105 and 936710)

The following hotfixes are recommended for GeForce 6, 7, and 8 series customers running 3D applications on Microsoft Windows Vista:
1) Hotfix for GeForce customers running DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 applications:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105. This hotfix resolves abnormal application behavior such as crashes and extremely low frame rates when running some 3D applications at very high graphics settings. This issue is not limited to, but has been most commonly noticed on high-end graphics cards and the following applications: Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Civilization IV, Company of Heroes, Half-Life 2, Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II, Supreme Commander, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas.

In order for this hotfix to be effective, GeForce customers must also update to the latest ForceWare Release 163 drivers:

Windows Vista 32-bit
Windows Vista 64-bit

2) Hotfix for SLI customers running DirectX 10 applications:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936710. This hotfix resolves occurrences of low frame rates on some DirectX 10 applications when SLI is enabled. Performance improvements will vary depending on the application and the graphics driver version.

3) Hotfix for GeForce customers:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938194. This hotfix improves the compatibility and reliability of Windows Vista. It can be downloaded from this link or from Windows Update.

4) Hotfix for GeForce customers:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979. This hotfix improves the performance and reliability of Windows Vista. It can be downloaded from this link or from Windows Update.

I dont get it!

September 4, 2007

Its an advert… involving a Gorilla, playing the drums, to Phil Collins’ song ‘In The Air Tonight’.

And its for…. DAIRY MILK!! The chocolate that is!

I find this advert very funny, very random and very confusing, all at the same time, and it makes NO sense what-so-ever!

Is this just a very clever piece of advertising to get people talking? Or has someone managed to slip past a ‘joke copy’ of an official advert that was supposed to be released :D

You can see the ad on the following Youtube clip!
